Frequently Asked Questions

What kind of boat will we be fishing on?
Our boat is a 2016, 35ft Everglades. She has a small cabin with a full bathroom and small berth for storage. She has plenty of additional storage and coolers space for anything you’d like to bring aboard. She can easily accommodate your friends and family for a full day on the water, or a short excursion. She’s fully licensed and equipped with the necessary safety gear that’s mandated by the USCG.
What should we bring?
Everything you need to be comfortable for a day on the water! Please apply sunscreen prior to boarding and pack a no-spray sunscreen for touch ups. For people who suffer from motion sickness or little experience on a boat, we recommend taking Dramamine prior to boarding (or bringing some just in case!) We provide bottled water and have multiple built-in coolers with ice for snacks and drinks. A small cooler with ice left in your vehicle will allow you to transport your catch home easily at the end of the day.
What should we wear?
Board shorts and bathing suits are great for jumping in the water, but we recommend layering sun protective clothing on top to help prevent sunburn! Even people who rarely burn tend to do so after a day on the water. Sunglasses and hats are helpful, and no scuff/black soled shoes please.
How long will we be on the boat?
We offer 4, 6, and 8 hour excursions. For fishing trips, we recommend at least 6 hours. This allows for the optimal amount of time to catch fish, with a buffer for traveling to that lucky fishing spot.
What's your cancellation policy?
You can cancel your trip at any point up to one week prior to your charter and receive a 50% refund. Refunds for cancellations within one week cannot be made.
We will do everything in our power to not cancel your trip because of weather. We will consider rescheduling if that’s an option for both parties. Should the weather not permit a safe fishing environment in the gulf on the day of your trip, we will automatically transfer your charter to the bay.
What type of fish can we expect to catch?
Bonita/little tunny/false albacore, king mackerel, red snapper, mahi mahi, triggerfish, grouper, amberjack, Spanish mackerel, cobia, and the occasional shark.
Can we keep what we catch?
Yes - as long as it’s in regulation, we want you to take your fish home! We’ll clean and prepare your catch for you. LJ Schooners Restaurant located at Bluewater Bay Marina also has a “catch and cook” menu option, which means they’ll cook your catch at the restaurant once it’s been filleted!
Are your excursions child-friendly?
Of course - we love introducing a new generation to joys of boating! Captain Jim is very safety-conscious, CPR certified, and well-prepared to handle emergencies in the unlikely event they arise. As a dad himself, Captain Jim is experienced in dealing with children.
